Riko's Pizza announces opening date for its new Norwalk location
Today — Riko's Pizza will open its new Norwalk location at 85 New Canaan Ave. on March 13, with celebrations including a ribbon-cutting ceremony at 4 p.m. attended by local dignitaries such as Mayor Harry Rilling. The restaurant will feature live music, refreshments, a 37-foot-long bar, table service, and 14 televisions. The new location will also replace the original take-out-only site in Norwalk. Known for its hot oil and thin-crust pizzas, Riko's menu includes clam pizza, Nashville hot chicken pizza, baked wings, and various drinks. The franchise, started in 2011, currently operates six locations in Connecticut and others in New York, Florida, and Vermont.
A cat lounge is opening in Plainville, and it's the 'purrfect' spot for cat lovers
Today — A new feline-centered business, The Purrfect Lounge, is set to open in Plainville, Connecticut, at 17 Farmington Ave. on Saturday, providing a space for people to interact with eight adoptable rescue cats. This 1,000-square-foot establishment aims to offer a relaxing environment without selling food or drinks, distinguishing it from a typical cat café. Customers must reserve 50-minute time slots online for their visits. Founder Samantha Otero, a home care nurse, hopes the lounge will encourage cat adoptions and serve as a therapeutic setting for visitors. The cats come from The Simon Foundation Inc., a nonprofit rescue organization, and have been spayed or neutered, vaccinated, and behaviorally assessed. The lounge's features include a TV, cat wheel, towers, scratch poles, wall furniture, benches, and a separate resting and littering room. Local artist Amanda Mendoza painted the reception area. Special events like paint nights and yoga with cats are planned. Otero has already received positive support with 30 bookings for March. The lounge's opening follows other similar businesses in Connecticut, like Perk and Paws Cat Cafe and Marcie's Angels Cat Cafe.
